We purchased a bike trailer from some friends that hadn’t checked the condition of it before taking it out. Apparently some mice had gotten in there and it wreaks soemthing terrible. It’s made out of tent-like material, what can I use to clean it with?

You have a common problem with a tough answer. What you need for the smell is an odor neutralizer/deodorant and what you need to clean/disinfect is a typical disinfectant (Lysol, etc). However, you cannot initially combine the two (odor neutralizers work by attacking any and all scents – so if you disinfect first and then spray with the neutralizer, the neutralizer will be working to fight the smell of the disinfectant, not the actual odor).
The best way to approach this situation is to wipe down the trailer first with HOT WATER ONLY (no chemicals/soap/etc). Once dry, spray the odor neutralizer on (I like Renzuit’s http://www.cleaningproductsworld.com/renuzit-super-odor-neutralizer-commercial-air-carpet-fabric-freshener-deodorant-trigger-sprayer-32-o.html) and let sit for a day or 2, check to make sure the odor is gone and if not repeat this process.
Once the odor is gone, I’d recommend a disinfectant wipe (try GymWipes – they are made for gym equipment so they won’t harm your trailer material http://www.cleaningproductsworld.com/gymwipes-antibacterial-plus-double-thick-wipes-bucket-8×6-700-per-bucket.html). Let the wipe residue remain behind and dry before using so it will continuously disinfectant.
Hope this helps!
Try Lysol. If nothing else, it will disinfect the trailer, and mask the smell.
I would try some 409 with a cloth or papertowel. I honestly am not sure, but no one had answered so I thought I’d help as much as i can!
Sorry :[ Just tryin to help
Try undiluted white vinegar, Heather. You may need to do it a few times but it will work. Whatever you do, don’t use anything having ammonia in it; the ammonia will make it even more disgusting.
vinegar for the smell…lysol for cleaning and disinfecting
If the surface is colorfast, use diluted bleach solution. And a paste of baking soda on the area, and let it sit for a while, for the smell. If the area is not colorfast, use PineSol.
for 1/2 cup bleach, use 1/4 cup water. scrub, let sit for 5 mins, rinse with hose, dry with towel, let sid for any access water to evaporate in sun.
