Fuji crosstown 2.0 or trek 7000?

I’m on a limited budget and I need your advice? Which bike should I get? the LBS has on sale the Fuji for 0 while a farther LBS has the trek 7000 for 0…so that’s ~0 off MSRP vs. off MSRP. The thing is I felt just a tad better on the 7000, plus the LBS selling the trek provides 1 year free service vs the Fuji carrier with 1 month service. So should I go for the better customer service or the guaranteed higher quality bike? Thank you very much in advance!

My husband works from 4pm to 12 midnight on most days and I’m at home with our 3 year old daughter most of the time; though sometimes he takes her to the park or swimming in the morning time at least 2-3 times a week.

I’m’ having a hard time getting together a sold schedule for her to keep her busy and entertained throughout the day, especially with me having severe anemia being weak and tired most of the time. I take walks with her some days during the week when I can get out early enough or late enough before dark to avoid the extreme heat.

I guess I need more to do with her during the day because she gets bored really quick and usually don’t do one thing no longer than 15-20 minutes if even that long. I draw and write with her, play ball with her, she helps me make lunch, we sing spiritual songs, we read books, we paint and color and even play learning games online for her age, and she rides her bike outside for maybe 10-15 minutes, but we go through this so fast and some of it she don’t always want to do and we have so many hours to go before the day is out and I’m trying to find something to do to keep her going.

I tried to get her to bed around 7:30 or 8pm but she’s wide awake and won’t go even if she got up at 6:30am and napped from 12pm – 1:30pm.

The day just seem so long and she is constantly bored with no kids to play with. The park is not walking distance and we don’t have a car to drive her anywhere. My husband takes her places on his bike (with child seat) on days he’s able.

      Hello,

I was wondering what is the best (safest and most convenient) way to transport a beach cruiser bicycle?

I use a fork-mounted bike carrier on the roof of my car to transport my road bike, and I’m sure that the beach cruisers would be too heavy (and maybe even too long and/or wide) to use on there, so I was wondering what other options do I have that would be both safe and convenient?

I have a car with a hitch, but I’m still not sure how safe that would be.

      Thank you in advance!

In November of last year, 2010, he got a Dui, and sometime between December and January wrecked his car, so I’m very concerned about his safety record. I know he got the Dui while she was in his custody, which he thinks is ok cause he (he’s 27 years old by the way) left her at home with mommy and daddy to go party all night, but his parents had to take her to her aunt’s house at 2am so they could bail him out of jail, and I had to hear it from my child 2 weeks later. She fusses that daddy is a bad driver, and speeds, which he did back when we were together, and that he scares her in his mustang driving. My daughter still falls asleep in the car going to town, and i’m concerned she is just too young to properly understand the consequences of not riding properly, not to mention shes too small to reach the pegs, and crotch-rockets don’t have back rests to their pasenger seats. The problem is that though I am primary custodian, he doesn’t give a damn about how I feel, so I need legal backing to keep her off the bike. He hasn’t got his license yet, and I hope his Dui will stop him from getting it, but I may not get so lucky. Can someone please help me? I have nothing against bike riders at all, but I do know my ex and his careless ways, and I am not ready to bury my daughter or watch her go through life with god knows what ailments because he’s stupid and puts her on the bike when shes just not ready. I just need to postpone it til I feel she is old enough to safely ride and understand it all. I thought of going to my local DFCS but I’m not sure they’ll help.
btw if it helps shes only 42" tall and 35lbs.

My husband and I are thinking about having a baby sometime in the next couple years. Money is tight, in part because my husband only works part-time. I teach at a year-round school, so I have about 11 weeks off from work, but they are scattered throughout the year. The upside to our situation is that we wouldn’t need as much childcare. The downside is that most childcare services would still make us pay for most of the days that we wouldn’t need them.

We’d want to put them into preschool pretty early — there is one in our area that I am really interested in and it starts at around 1.5 years of age. So we’d only be looking for part-time childcare for the first year and a half.

My question is this — do you think that it would work to ask my in-laws to care for the baby during this time? My father in law is unemployed and is going kind of stir crazy. My mother in law is a teacher, but not on the same schedule as my school. So basically my husband would care for the baby 2 days a week all year round, my father in law would care for the baby 3 days a week for 41 weeks out of the year and he’d have help from my mother in law for about 5 of those weeks while she is on summer break and I am not. I would care for the baby for the 11 weeks that I’d have off each year (and my husband and I would both be home with the baby 2 days a week during those breaks).

So, all in all, we’d be asking for about a thousand hours of childcare a year from my in-laws. Do you think that this is a reasonable thing to bring up before getting pregnant? Do you think they’d feel awkward about saying no? They are both pretty energetic (they go kayaking, running, biking, etc), so I am confident that they’d have lots of energy to keep up with the baby, but I’m also worried that we’d be "cramping their style" because it’s hard to do those things with a baby. I mean, you can take a baby on a bicycle if you have one of those carrier things, but I wouldn’t want them to take a baby in a kayak!

They LOVE me and their children. What would you do? Would you ask them before getting pregnant? It seems like kind of a loaded question: "Will you watch our kid for 25-ish hours a week? If not, we aren’t sure that we can afford to have kids…." We don’t really talk to them about having kids because they are the type that would get really excited and really worried at the same time. But I’m equally scared of getting pregnant assuming that they’d do it for us and then finding out that it would be a huge burden on them. Would you bring up compensation? It might take some of the edge off of my father-in-law being unemployed, but it might also make them feel awkward (they rarely let us pay for things, even though we know that they are stressed about money).

They also live about 40 minutes away from us. It isn’t a bad drive, but it isn’t fun either. My husband and I both live a 20 minute walk from our respective workplaces. Would you recommend that we get up early and drive down there to drop off the baby? Or would it make more sense to ask our father-in-law to come up and care for the baby in our home? It would mean less time and gas for my husband (and it would potentially mean that we wouldn’t need as many hours of childcare) but it would also mean that my father-in-law wouldn’t be able to be in his own home.

I’d really like some advice on this. Thanks so much!

                Okay. Here’s the scenario:

A 19-year-old pilot has a very active and fun lifestyle. Lots of flying & flight training(she’s till working on ratings), as well as canoeing, camping, hiking, biking, etc. She’s constantly traveling from place to place, staying with friends and relatives(who have dogs, cats, and kids), as well as checking out the dog-friendly towns, parks, shops and restaurants all along the way. She has a lifetime of solid dog experience and currently shares her life with a Labrador already . . .

She is seeking a VERY small dog, the smaller the better, as small as possible while still being resilient enough to handle the rigors of her every day life. She wants a dog that will go with her everywhere, so temperament is key. This dog will be riding along on all of her flights in small-planes, as well as her commercial flight trips, so she needs a dog who will be small enough to fit in a carrier small enough to safely meet the requirements for carry-on . . . which is sometimes no taller than 8"!

Can’t be a "flat-faced breed" because of the difficulties they have with breathing/flight.

She doesn’t mind grooming(in fact, she loves it) so a "high maintenance breed wouldn’t be a problem.

She also doesn’t mind getting all of thosethings especially for small dogs to keep them safe . . . life jackets, bike baskets, dog purses, etc.

Can you recommend MY perfect itty bitty match?

Went for a toot in the country last week. We stopped at a small roadside service centre to refuel ourselves and our bikes. One of the chaps in our group had to get up in the face of a chap that was about to seat his child on one of our bikes so that he could take a photo of it.
Anyone ever tried a stunt like that with your ride?

help with knocking noise on my GSX-R SRAD 600?

About a month ago my housemate cleaned my bike with a jet wash thinking he was doing me a favour. Since then it has developed a knocking noise that sounds like its coming from the transmission area, i don’t think its an engine knock anyway. I can feel it directly below myself in riding position and I can feel it through my footpegs. It is not brake related and can mostly be felt between 3K and 7K revs. It speeds up and slows down in consistency with the bike throttle. I have replaced the cush drive, checked the front and rear sprokets, replaced the front wheel bearing and also the front brake discs. The chain is within the 20-30cm requirement and so isn’t slack. Bear in mind that I have used it all thoughout winter daily too. My next thought is to replace the rear bearings and sproket carrier bearing as i would guess that if he has blasted these with a power wash its gotten through the seals. But i don’t want to just keep throwing money at it.
Does anyone have any ideas etc?
                          Thanks,
                          Andy.

Who thinks this would be a good idea?

okay so I have a 2 year old who can practically climb her way out of anything! car seats are a major concern of mine because well how safe can they be if she can climb right out? right? well i had this Idea, and well im asking this out of pure curiosity, what if there was a car seat with maybe a # lock on it! like the bike locks that you line up the numbers on? where the buckle on the chest goes, that way the child couldn’t take that off, and climb out. what do you think?

obviosly the safety features are of greatest consern and i do agree about the wreck or emergency situation, of course the combination would be placed where any adult can see its not a lock to keep anyone from opening just the child. and FYI: I do strap my child in securely its just that she knows how to unbuckle it herself, the latches are too easy to figure out. there for a child proof latch of some sort is what i am trying to suggest here!!!

Just be able to be outside and observe what is around is the best part of the project.

What type of child bike seat is best?

I am considering a trailer, rear-mounted seat, and a front-mounted seat. I’m worried about my balance being thrown off, which of those is worse for that issue? Also, I’m only 5’2 and I’ve heard about front-mounted seats causing steering difficulty for short people. Also I’m wondering which is the safest. Thanks for your input!

                                      Dog Carrier Backpack?

Looking for a solid pack I can put my dog in for short mild mountain bike rides. Any ideas?
Apparently I can’t reply to questions, so I"ll expand on my own. I have a Boston Terrier…lol I guess that would help to know. Although, I would be interesting riding with a Great Dane on your back. Thanks for the response, but I’m looking for something I can put on my back or stomach while i ride. Something sturdy with a stomach belt.
